Style
My style is relaxed and fun - I want you to enjoy the process of having your photo taken! Most of my clients become my friends because I do my best to get to know them and develop a relationship with them. I want to bring out their personalities in my photos and I cannot do that without getting to know them!
My wedding clients enjoy a complimentary engagement session which helps us get to know one another. It also helps me learn things like how comfortable they are in front of the camera, which angles and lighting work best for them, how they interact with each other and allows me to find out important things like features they don’t like about themselves in photos (”Watch out for my double chin”, “This is my good side”, etc.). The wedding day is not the time to discover these things! The wedding day is often hurried and I do not want to take an unnecessary amount of time getting clients comfortable with me and my camera - with the engagement session we’ve already established that! Your wedding day is about you, not me. I want the portrait part of your day to go as quickly as possible and be relaxed and fun. You should not look back on your day thinking about the hour or two that your photographer spent jumping down your throat barking orders at you. Other than some quick, fun and relaxed portraits, I want to melt into your wedding, as seemingly just another friend celebrating with you that just happened to bring a camera. I will never ask you to stop and pose for me during your first dance, cake cutting or anything. I capture the moments as they happen and often find many great moments that you didn’t even know about!
Portrait clients don’t get left out in the cold - I want everyone to walk away thinking about the great photos AND the great EXPERIENCE they had. For even the most basic portrait session I recommend at least a 2 hour session as it gives us the opportunity to gain that comfort I’ve been talking about. It gives me a chance to get to know more about you and gives us the time to have some fun. This is incredibly important with children. I do not expect to walk up to a 2 year old with my camera and get them to sit and smile perfectly. I do not expect them to be comfortable with me. Of course, I am a parent - I don’t expect a 2 year old to sit still at all! One of the greatest compliments I have ever received was a client of mine expressing her amazement that I managed to get even one decent photo of her boys - she couldn’t figure out how I did it and especially that there was a gallery of over 150 images for her to choose from!
I am not a mall photo studio. It is incredibly rare that I use backdrops. I don’t make you come to me in a stale environment and expect you to feel at ease in what looks like a doctor’s office with a camera. Let’s explore and have some fun! Let’s bring some life into your photos and show more than just what you look like right now. I want to show WHO you are. I want to capture all of the little nuances and quirks that make you unique. I want to capture your inner beauty just as much as your outward beauty. I will travel to your home or we can work together to find a place that makes you comfortable and means something to you. I love photographing sessions outdoors in parks, cities and the most out of the ordinary places. I’ve been known to stop on the side of the road to photograph in some tall ornamental grass or to take my clients to an old dilapidated building with peeling paint and rust! Do you like to hike? I love hiking - let’s go for a walk in the woods and take advantage of what mother nature has to offer! There are so many amazing places to explore in the Hudson Valley! My goal is to bring out your personalities and to create photos that are exciting and different than what you may have had in the past or what your friends and family have. I want your friends and family to envy your photos.
So, let’s chat… let’s get to know one another. Talk to me about what makes you YOU and let’s create some great photos together!
